Review Game Designers Convention in Göttingen 2023

On June 03/04, 2023, the 41st Game Designers Convention took place in Göttingen. More than 350 people came to the Lokhalle, prototypes were presented at 180 tables and reviewed by more than 80 publisher representatives.

The event was opened with a greeting by the Mayor of Göttingen, Dr. Ehsan Kangarani, and the Chairman of the SAZ, Hartmut Kommerell.

On Saturday, the Göttinger Spatz was awarded. This year, the award for his contribution to the cultural asset of games went to Christian Beiersdorf, who has been and continues to be committed to the cultural asset of games in an incomparable way over decades in various functions within the Game Designers Association but also far beyond. The laudation was held by last year's award winner Friedemann Friese.

On Sunday, on the Göttingen Day of Games, everyone was invited to test the games of the authors.

The German Young Game Designer Scholarship, sponsored by the Spiel des Jahres jury, was awarded again this year. The jury, consisting of Lothar Hemme, Henning Kröpke and last year's winner Tobias Tesar, awarded this year's scholarship to Mareike Bruns-Strenge, which will enable her to gain insights into publishing work, the toy trade, the Nuremberg Game Archive and the teaching of game theory through various internships.

Jan-Friedrich Hadzik and Daniel Bahr were also nominated.

The date for next year's meeting is scheduled for June 01 and 02, 2024.
